Host plants include sweet bay, red bay and others in the Laurel family.

The Ambrosia Beetle,a non-native insect, was first found in the United States near Port Wentworth, Georgia in 2002. Probably came in on shipments with wooden packing material, such as crates and pallets, imported through the shipment of goods from SE Asia. These beetles have killed most of the Red Bay in the southeast.
